News

In 2018 I am going to work as hard as I can to be chosen as your progressive nominee in June’s Democratic Primary.  And if I win I’m going to keep on working to beat Rob Wittman in November.  You should have a congressman who does not march in lockstep with the GOP and who does not rubber stamp the Trump Agenda.  If another progressive democrat wins, I’m going to work just as hard for him or her as I would for myself, because my resolution is really about you, not me.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going.  From a morale perspective things are pretty tough for most of us right now. Trump, Wittman, and their ilk are taking us in exactly the wrong direction just as fast as they possibly can.  I suppose I should try to relax a bit through Monday’s bowl games but the truth is I’d rather already be lacing up my boots, rolling up my sleeves, and hitting the trail to get this done with you and for you.  2018 is the year for each of us to do everything we possibly can to elect the first progressive Democrat in history in Virginia’s First.  Frankly, I am eager to get started.

I stand for an America where we are all in this together, not where it’s every man for himself.

If you believe the things that I do, I need both your moral encouragement and your financial support.

I look forward to meeting you out on the trail soon and discussing how together we can make America better than ever and 2019 better than 2017 and 2018.  Let’s roll.

Congratulations Vangie!

I congratulate Vangie on her convincing victory and I will back her 110% and ask all my supporters to do the same. Because this was never about any of the three of us which is why we show each other affection and respect. It was always about what kind of country we want to live in, healthcare for all, first class education and infrastructure, equality, action on climate change and gun violence, and campaign finance reform. You care, you’re passionate, you’re dedicated, and you’re going to make a difference come next January.

Thank You Volunteers

I want to thank everyone who worked so hard to advance progressive values this primary season, those who believe healthcare is a human right, that a first class education is the gift every American child should receive, that true equality means equal rights and equal pay, that investment in infrastructure improves our economy while reducing our carbon footprint and helps the environment, that taking action on gun violence is a question of political courage not constitutional amendments, and that we need campaign finance reform, and to overturn Citizen’s United, because special interests are not people, but the peoples interests are special, and should always come first.

Suddarth Calls Out Primary Competitor

Free Lance Star 6/9/18: ‘The candidates have mainly touted their own attributes rather than attack each other, though Suddarth said Santana played “dirty politics” by misrepresenting his stance on the Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley oil pipelines. Santana, who opposes pipelines, told The Free Lance–Star that Suddarth has “voiced support” for pipelines.
“I don’t think we should be continuing to invest in fossil fuel infrastructure,” Santana said.
But Suddarth said he opposes the Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley pipelines, calling the proposed fuel production for those projects “environmentally unsound.” Still, he said he does believe pipelines in general represent a safer way to transport fuel than tanker trucks or trains.
“It’s politically easy just to say you’re against pipelines, and I’m not going to say that,” he said, adding that shutting off pipelines would put gas stations out of business. He noted that he is not accepting donations from Dominion Energy or the fossil-fuel industry.’

“The ballooning costs of health care act as a hungry tapeworm on the American economy,” Mr. Buffett said in the statement.  Mr. Buffett, the person said, believes the condition of the country’s health care system is a root cause of economic inequality, with wealthier people enjoying better, longer lives because they can afford good coverage As Mr. Buffett himself has aged — he is 87 — the contrast between his moneyed friends and others has grown starker, the person said.

GOP To Use Huge Deficit They’ve Just Created as Excuse to Chip Away at Healthcare and Anti-Poverty Programs

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) said Wednesday that congressional Republicans will aim next year to reduce spending on both federal health care and anti-poverty programs, citing the need to reduce America’s deficit.

“We’re going to have to get back next year at entitlement reform, which is how you tackle the debt and the deficit,” Ryan said during an appearance on Ross Kaminsky’s talk radio show. “… Frankly, it’s the health care entitlements that are the big drivers of our debt, so we spend more time on the health care entitlements — because that’s really where the problem lies, fiscally speaking.”
